STM - ESL in Semily and Zelezny Brod

In February, a small mission team from Colorado Springs came to Turnov for a week to help us with local ministry.  Samantha, Amanda, and Judy were familiar with New Hope from our office in Colorado Springs.  They visited the Mothers’ Club, and the Tea House.  And they helped teach English in two public schools. One school was in the nearby village of  Semily, where about a year ago, we started ministry work.  The other school is new with New Hope, in the town of Zelezny Brod. We have never done any program in that town. Both towns are similar, each without a Christian church. The feedback from both school on the volunteer work by the team was excellent. And now we have open doors to come again with other ministry projects.

    Samantha shares:

There we were – three twenty-somethings gals from America – standing in front of a wide-eyed class of Czech students, most of whom have studied English for years but have never encountered a native English speaker. Between two schools, one in Semily and the other in Zelezny Brod, we taught a total of nine English classes, each of which ended in a barrage of kids begging for our autographs and facebook names (marks of success!). We loved conversing with them in English, and just to be fair, we invited them to teach us some Czech words (and to giggle at our horrible pronunciation).

We loved the opportunity to be able to connect with the students and can only hope that our impression on them will be as lasting and positive as their impression on us. We are thankful also for the opportunity to represent New Hope Czech Republic in the surrounding cities of Turnov and to truly partner with them in their mission to impact their community for Christ. We can’t wait for an opportunity to return! God bless!
